Dr Paul Tsai - Specialist Periodontist

Dr Paul Tsai is a Sydney based Specialist Periodontist at The Gum Specialists in Campsie.  He completed his dental degree with Class I Honours from The University of Queensland in 2003.  Since then he had been in private practice in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Taiwan for 5 years before he moved to Boston for his Specialist Periodontist Residency at Boston University, Massachusetts, USA. 

During his residency in the states, he was awarded the Ruben Scholarship for academic and clinical excellence in periodontology.  While working in Dallas, Texas after his residency, he also successfully achieved Board Certification as a Diplomate from the highly regarded American Board of Periodontology.   Currently, he is a Surgical Mentor in the Postgraduate Diploma of Dental Implantology at the Charles Sturt University.  

At The Gum Specialists in Campise, his practice includes all facets of periodontics and implant dentistry with a special interest in soft and hard tissue grafting, including sinus lifts and block grafts for implants.

Dr. Tsai is dedicated to staying at the forefront of his field by regularly attending major international and local conferences on periodontology and implant dentistry. This commitment ensures that he can offer his patients the most advanced treatment options available. In addition to his professional pursuits, Dr. Tsai regularly volunteers at the Free Dental Fairs organized by the Tzu Chi International Medical Association (TIMA) since 2002 when Dr Tsai was only a 4th year dental student. He has volunteer in many of their missions to address the urgent dental needs of farmers in rural Queensland, newly arrived refugees and more recently, to serve the local vulnerable communities in Mount Druitt.

Dr Fady Bassily - Specialist Periodontist BDSc (Hons), MDSc, MFDS RCSEd, DClinDent (Perio).

Dr. Fady Bassily is a professional, friendly, and caring periodontist, whose dental journey spans over 15 years, characterized by excellence and ongoing learning. Graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Dental Medicine and Surgery in 2008, Dr Bassily displayed early dedication to the field. Eager to deepen his expertise, he pursued a Master's degree in Prosthodontics in 2014, followed by a Diploma of Membership of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Edinburgh In 2016.

Driven by a passion for periodontics and implant dentistry, Dr Bassily continued his educational journey by obtaining his specialist degree, Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Periodontics from the prestigious University of Sydney. This advanced training equipped him with the specialized knowledge and skills needed to excel in all aspects of the field. During his specialist training, Dr Bassily was involved in teaching at the University of Sydney contributing to the education of future dental professionals. His research project focused on studying microbial biofilm formation around dental implants.

Dr Bassily has absolute passion in providing a better quality of life to his patients by his comprehensive and personalized care.

Dr Bassily is an active member of the Australian Dental Association (ADA), the Australian Society of Periodontology (ASP), the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists (ANZAP), the International Team for Implantology (ITI), and the Osteology foundation.

When not working, Dr Bassily enjoys quality family time with his wife and two gorgeous daughters. He finds joy in exploring new destinations and engaging in various sports activities.

Dr Bassily is fluent in Arabic and French.

 

Dr Wensy Leung - Specialist Periodontist BA(Media), BOH(DSC), GDipDent, DClinDent(Perio)

Dr. Wensy Leung is a compassionate and dedicated periodontist completing a Doctor in Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) specializing in Periodontics from the University of Sydney. She completed her dental training at Griffith University in 2012, where she received numerous accolades for her outstanding academic performance, including the ADAQ Branch Prize for the highest GPA over five years, and the Colgate Academic Prize. In 2010, she received the Oral Health in Dental Science Medal for the highest GPA in the Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science. Additionally, she received the Heine Australia Prize in 2009 and the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence from 2008 to 2012.

At the core of Dr. Leung’s work is her passion for providing personalized, high-quality care that prioritizes the well-being of each patient. She is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care, taking the time to truly understand her patients' unique needs and concerns. Dr. Leung believes in treating her patients as individuals and approaches each case with the goal of not just improving oral health but enhancing overall quality of life.

Dr. Leung specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, with a particular focus on soft tissue management. She uses the latest evidence-based techniques and research to create tailored treatment plans that not only address immediate concerns but also promote long-term oral health. Her research into Lipid A biomarkers in saliva and plaque aims to enable early diagnosis of periodontal disease, ultimately helping prevent severe outcomes such as tooth loss.

Dr. Leung is passionate about giving back to the community and has volunteered with several organizations, including the AusViet Organisation in rural Vietnam, Mudgeeraba Aged Care, and Tzu Chi Volunteering, where she provided dental care to underserved populations. She has also volunteered in Cherbourg, offering comprehensive dental services, and had the opportunity to take part in Royal Flying Doctor service, providing dental care to remote areas. These experiences highlight her commitment to improving access to dental care and supporting those in need.

Dr. Leung is passionate about lifelong learning and continues to seek opportunities to further her skills and knowledge. Fluent in Cantonese and currently learning Mandarin, she embraces personal growth, not only for herself but also to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

When she's not working, Dr. Leung enjoys spending quality time with her family, including her two energetic boys. She loves to travel, explore new cultures, and try new experiences, always with an open heart and a curious mind.

Our Periodontal Hygienists are highly trained by Dr Tsai to perform all non-surgical periodontal treatments and maintenances. This enables our team to provide high quality care at a timely manner.

Inggrid is our Periodontal Hygienist at The Gum Specialists and she is here to help! Growing up, she always believed that the Mouth is the gateway to the whole body so Oral health is an indicator of overall health. Preventing oral health problems like gingivitis and periodontal disease will definitely reduce the risk of more serious health issues throughout the body.

After attaining her Bachelor of Oral Health in 2012 at University of Newcastle, she started her mission to help patients with excellent, dedication, assertiveness, and professionalism. She works well under pressure and thrive in challenges in order to provide the best care for her patients and that is just a few of her personal attributes.

Outside of her busy work life, she enjoys volunteering at her local community. Her little pearl of wisdom in life: Life is short, smile while you still have teeth!
